Three Keys To Life Planning

How’s your life planning coming along? If you don’t have some kind of plan, I encourage you to create one. It reminds me of the Alice and Wonderland quote: “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.” When we were younger, remember how we planned for the future? We thought a lot about, schooling, jobs, relationships, finances, etc… I encourage you to continue planning for the future!

Here are three keys I’ve learned along the way about life planning:

  1. Create a diversified “life portfolio.” – just like having a diversified financial portfolio. Start now. See the Retirement Transition Wheel on my website along with my free Midlife Planner.
  2. Life planning includes challenging transitions. Living through the “messy middle” is a rite of passage to get to the other side – whether it’s leaving your main career or going through some other transition.
  3. Life plans are made to be broken. Planning for what to do after retirement makes sense but it isn’t everything. While it’s good to have a plan, expect it to change as life unfolds.

The good news is…over time, most people figure things out and are happy in retirement – especially if they have a balanced portfolio of activities and a sense of purpose.
