A Life Reset? Take a Trip!

I wondered if it was possible to have a life reset, so I headed solo to an ashram in the Bahamas a few weeks ago to find out. My visit was to the Sivananda Ashram in Nassau where I did yoga and meditation each day. There were healthy community meals, like-minded guests/staff and a cooperative spirit that inspired me to wash dishes after the meals (not an ashram expectation). The beach/ocean and tropical climate was a plus for an affordable get-away!

The ashram was a way to take me out of “my ordinary.” I’m trying to do more new things in myr years. Perhaps that’s part of my reset – that I’m in a later life stage and there is only so much time left, so use it well. For me having this little reset helped me move forward by focusing on what I wanna do now, and diminish the thoughts that have held me back. We all make assumptions about what is possible – or not possible. Here are a few obstacles that challenge me from time to time – and challenge clients I’ve served.

Common Obstacles – and Some Ways Forward:

1. Resistance to change:  We feel comfortable with our current situation, even if it is not ideal, and fear the unknown or the possible consequences of changing. To overcome this challenge, perhaps look for the benefits of changing, and seek support from those who share our values and aspirations.

2. Lack of clarity. We don’t have a clear idea of what we want to change or achieve, or how to go about it. Perhaps we feel overwhelmed by the options or the complexity of the process. To change, try breaking down goals into smaller and more manageable steps to help clarify and organize thoughts.

3. Lack of motivation: We lose interest or enthusiasm in our goals, or face obstacles or setbacks that discourage us. It’s normal to struggle with procrastination, distraction, or self-doubt. To make headway, look for ways to celebrate progress and achievements. Work to cultivate a positive mindset and attitude, using affirmations, meditation, or other techniques.
